In 2010, the Lowell Spinners were awarded the opportunity to host the 2011 New York-Penn League All-Star Game. And with the game was the need for a logo to brand the event. The Spinners decided to hold a contest to create the logo, and I took on the challenge along with about 50–60 other designers. While my design wasn’t chosen in the final fan vote, it did make the final round of 16.
My mark focused on the venue, Edward A. LeLacheur Park in Lowell. The stadium’s entrance features a pavilion with the park’s name on it, which I used as the basis of the entry. The traditional Red Sox (and by extension Spinners) colors of navy, red, and white are accompanied by two shades of muted green that pay tribute the the steel work of the main gate. That gate is the main attraction of the logo, displayed proudly on a 45º angle forming the base of the mark. The words ALL-STAR GAME boldly state the event name so that the mark will read the essential information clearly at small sizes and is complemented by the year, league name, and game location.
