April 15, 1947 is a date that will live on forever. That was the day Jackie Robinson first suited up for the Brooklyn Dodgers and became the first African-American player to play in MLB. Jackie was a phenom, posting 197 stolen bases and more than 1500 hits during his 10-season career. He also won the very first Rookie of the Year award in 1947 to go alongside an NL MVP award in 1949 and six consecutive All-Star appearances. In 1997, Robinson’s number 42 was retired League-wide, while in 2004 MLB instituted Jackie Robinson Day, in which every player dons a nameless 42 jersey for their game on the 15th of April. The poster design features the restrained aesthetic of the 1940s, with Jackie’s 42 boldly displayed behind him against a field of Dodger blue. JACKIE ROBINSON is displayed at the top of the design in bold condensed sans serif lettering with a subtle shadow, while BROOKLYN DODGERS appears below it in a red ribbon.
