Lanny McDonald

Lanny McDonald

Lanny McDonald played for the Toronto Maple Leafs, Colorado Rockies and Calgary Flames over 16 seasons during which he tallied more than 1,100 games, 500 goals, 1,000 points, and a chance to lift Lord Stanley’s Cup. The man with the big mustache from nearby Hanna, Alberta provided character and leadership to his new team following his trade from the Colorado Rockies in 1981. Known for his hard slapshot, effective wrist shot, and prolific goal scoring, McDonald would adapt his game over his career to more of a leadership role with less ice time as injuries took their toll. While he sat many games in his final season, he provided a crucial spark in the 1989 Cup Finals breaking a 1-1 tie en route to a championship-clinching 4-2 victory and securing the Flames’ only NHL title. The poster design embodies McDonald’s aesthetic, rugged and straightforward, with his name in large western-style lettering. Lanny appears front-and-center in front of his number nine on a red background. The team’s striping pattern leads the viewer back to the Old ‘Stache.
