The Grizzlies began play in 1995, albeit in Vancouver, British Columbia. Their original color scheme of teal, black, brown, and red followed them to the Volunteer State in 2001, but was replaced by a palette of navy, columbia blue, and yellow in 2004. My concept keeps that chromatic history in mind, with a primary logo that features a prowling bear against a night sky. The grizzly breaks down to a standalone bear and a partial mark of the head. The bear is complemented by a G-Paw icon and a neon-inspired M. The typography takes its cues from the fluorescent signs on Memphis’s Beale Street, complete with striped accents that appear on the jerseys and throughout the trim. The Pride uniforms revisit the team’s early history by reviving the 90’s-era colors and asymmetrical uniform design. As players step onto the court, they run past the stare of the grizzly.
