Washington Warriors

Washington DC has had a professional football team since 1937, after their eventual franchise spent five seasons in Boston and moved south. Throughout their entire time in the Nation’s Capital, the team has sported burgundy and various shades of gold ranging from old gold to Vegas gold to athletic gold. The franchise has typically worn a burgundy helmet, but has also worn brown leather, old gold, and athletic gold helmets at various times in its history. Long story short, there isn’t much worth talking about in regards to the team’s nickname other than the fact it needed to be changed decades ago. For this Washington football concept, I decided to build a brand off of the name Washington Warriors, celebrating the military’s might and effort in saving the world from Nazism and Fascism. The primary icon features a WWII-era doughboy against a squared shield with two stripes. It is combined with a rounded block font reminiscent of text pins on the military uniforms of the era to create the team signature. The alternate logo takes inspiration from rank patches worn on the soldiers’ sleeves and is used on the players’ sleeves. A W-logo with two stripes and three stars and a solid burgundy helmet mark complete the logo set. The helmets are a textured burgundy with an old gold facemask featuring the primary doughboy icon on each side. The home uniforms pair the burgundy helmet with burgundy jerseys featuring athletic gold type. The secondary logo appears on each sleeve, while awards badges on the left chest and contrasting nameplates offer additional military details. The burgundy home jerseys pair with old gold or white pants. The away jerseys are white with burgundy type and pair with old gold or burgundy pants. The alternate jerseys go bright with an athletic gold base color, burgundy type, and a burgundy nameplate. They pair with white or burgundy pants. The throwbacks are similar to throwbacks the team has worn recently, but with the regrettable imagery removed.
