The Chicago Bears were born in 1920 as the Decatur Staleys. One year later, they would move to Chicago and one more year after that adopt the Bears name. With the Bears name, the team transitioned to its longstanding color palette of midnight navy and burnt orange. Those early Bears teams wore padded jerseys with a distinct vertical stripe pattern through 1929. The padding pattern changed for the 1930 and 1931 seasons before the team switched to a trio of stripes on each sleeve for the 1932 season. The team would make incremental changes to the uniforms over the following decades, adding a white version of the classic whishbone-C in 1962 and switching it to its current orange outlined in white in 1973. The Bears would add navy pants on the road in 1984 and wore them with their navy jersey for the first time in 2002. My Bears rebrand places a walking Bear inside a football border with four stars that represent the city of Chicago above a team wordmark. The bear is wearing a navy jersey with three orange stripes on the sleeve. The alternate mark consists of a football-shaped C with three stripes where the laces are and four stars. The bear appears by itself as a sleeve patch, while a CB monogram and the classic wishbone-C fill out the logo offerings. The typeface features an inline and serifs to evoke art noveau signage and celebrate the Bears’ long tenure in the Second City. The home uniforms remove all white from the jerseys and feature orange stripes and typography with sublimated vertical stripes that mimic the padding patterns of the 1920s jerseys. The sleeves each contains the walking bear, but the bear on the left sleeve contains GSH for George S. Halas, the team’s founder and also its first owner and longtime head coach. The navy home jerseys are paired with warm grey and white pant options, both with three burnt orange stripes down each side. The away uniforms are white with warm grey sublimation, orange sleeves stripes and navy numbers. The white jerseys can be paired with white pants or navy pants. Burnt orange forms the base of the alternate jerseys with navy type and sleeve stripes. The burnt orange jerseys are paired with warm grey or navy pants. The throwback inspired uniform returns the wishbone-C to the helmet atop navy jerseys and white pants.
