Jacksonville Jaguars

Born in 1995 as the NFL’s 30th team, the Jacksonville Jaguars were a surprise to land a team over larger markets in St. Louis and Baltimore. The team’s inaugural logo never saw the field as the automaker Jaguar claimed copyright infringement. The team’s leaping jaguar logo in black and metallic gold on a silver helmet was dropped in favor of a jaguar head against a black helmet. The black helmets were worn over teal jerseys and white pants at home, while the aways subbed in a white jersey with teal numbers. The Jags tinkered with their uniforms over their first few seasons before cementing the look of their first era in 1998. The inaugural season saw block numbers before they added black side panels for the 1997 season. The following year the side panels were gone while the block numbers were traded for a more regal serifed typeface. That main look would stay, with prowling jaguars on each sleeve, mostly unchanged through the 2008 season although Jacksonville added black alternate jerseys and pants in the 2002 season. In 2009, the Jaguars would add a teal metallic flake to their helmets while removing all traces of gold (and traditional striping) from the uniforms outside of the logo. This era of Jaguars uniforms would last four seasons. In 2013, the Jags would swing back in the other direction chromatically, bringing back gold trim as well as introducing a half-matte black and half-metallic gold helmets alongside an updated jaguar head logo. The home jerseys were now black, while the alternate was teal with black numbers. These uniforms would be universally panned, especially when the team unveiled an all-gold Color Rush uniform in 2015. For 2018 the team went back to basics, a reasonable reaction to the over-designed era from which they emerged. The helmets are now black with the new jaguar head on each side. Black home jerseys with white numbers and teal trim are worn at home, while black numbers and trim on white make up the away jersey. The alternate jerseys are teal with white type and black trim, and all three jerseys can pair with black, white, or teal pants. My Jaguars redesign re-illustrates the head to face left and incorporates more teal throughout the design. The jaguar head icon is placed under the team name which rendered in a sharp block font. The alternate logo, in full attack mode featuring a jaguar paw swiping at its target, a spotted-J, and the original jaguar head complete the logo set. The helmet goes gold, mimicking the jaguar’s head with fierce eyes and the big cat’s trademark spot pattern. The home uniforms bring back teal jerseys with plain white type and black sleeve trim but also add spotted gold and black cap sleeves to the mix. They pair with either gold or white pants featuring a matching jaguar stripe on each leg. The away jerseys swap the white and teal from the home jerseys to keep the full color palette on display. The alternate jerseys go black with teal numbers and pair with black or gold pants. The throwback uniforms echo the Mark Brunell era with a deeper teal, the serifed font, and the prowling jaguar on the sleeve.
