The very first iteration of the Rams franchise suited up in 1937 wearing black and red and playing along the shores of Lake Erie. The Cleveland Rams would settle on blue and gold for the 1939 season and would move west before the 1946 season to be the Los Angeles Rams. Aside from one season in 1949 in which they would sport red and gold, the uniforms would remain relatively stable those first few decades. The team would mostly wear blue or gold jerseys, wearing only gold from 1951 through 1956. The gold jerseys would be retired after the 1957 season in favor of blue at home and white on the road. The next major change came in 1964 when all traces of gold were removed for a blue and white scheme. The blue home jerseys featured a pair of stripes on each sleeve, while the white away jerseys would opt for a single blue stripe on each shoulder. The monochromatic scheme would last through the 1972 season, after which gold would return. The new uniforms featured horns on both the helmets and jerseys, as well as a blue-white-blue stripe on each leg of athletic gold pants. This scheme was made notable by Eric Dickerson and Jim Everett and would last the first five seasons of the Rams’ tenure in St. Louis. In the Year 2000, the Rams would make another radical change, swapping out athletic gold for metallic gold and unifying their blue helmets and jerseys with a single shade of navy. The navy and metallic gold would follow the team back to the West Coast for the 2016 season, although the team would begin phasing out the gold for a temporary navy-and-white scheme that would itself be reduced by the NFL loosening its uniform rules and wearing royal and athletic gold throwbacks for almost half their games. My Rams concept brings a new ram head into the mix as a primary logo and places it against an art deco wordmark to create the team signature. The secondary logo takes its inspiration from Beverly Hills placing LA and a ram horn inside a crest that mimics the neighborhood’s classic signage. The horned LA text mark and a classic helmet mark complete the logo set. The art deco font is condensed for a taller number set that fits correctly on jerseys. The helmet is lightened from navy to a metallic royal blue with yellow horns featuring white highlights. The primary home jerseys are royal with yellow stripes and type and the shield mark on the left chest. The home jerseys pair with athletic gold or white pants. The away jerseys are white with royal type and sleeves that feature gold striping. The away uniforms can be worn with royal or white pants. The athletic gold alternate jerseys recall the days of Norm Van Brocklin with royal blue typography and striping and pair with either white or royal pants. The throwbacks pay homage to the days of Deacon Jones with a straightforward navy and white scheme and simple shoulder and pant stripes.
