Québec Nordiques

The NHL hasn’t dropped a puck in Québec City since 1995. The following season, the former Nordiques were the Colorado Avalanche en route to a Stanley Cup championship. I wanted to keep their signature light blue, but I paired it with navy and old gold instead of red. For the primary logo I started from scratch and developed a Q mark containing a snowy owl, the provincial bird of Québec. Aside the Snowy Owl-Q I created a full body owl, a beveled fleur-de-lis mark, and a badge that features the city’s ramparts. The script uses a sans serif with some rounded corners and some squared. Each numerals is highlighted by an arrow in the northeast corner, signifying Québec’s relation to the NHL’s other teams. The home and away sweater carry over the fleurs-de-lis from the hem line and shoulders of the defunct jerseys. The round collars are accented with a diagonal stripe to form a subtle Q around the neckline. The navy alternate uniforms celebrate the historical ramparts around the City of Québec.
