Teemu Selanne

Billboard-quality vector graphics are key to showing off a larger-than-life personality. Why fight with pixel-based photos hoping the resolution is high enough that people won’t see squares as long as they are far enough away? Clean vector paths show highlights and shadows in crisp detail. This illustration shows Teemu Selanne, aka The Finnish Flash, in stunning, scalable detail against a background of lightning bolts and his signature number 8. Starting with the reference photo, I made distinct choices about which facial lines and features I wanted to highlight to convey Mr. Selanne’s likeness. I then placed the Teemu rendering against a black number 8 so his face would separate from the background. The top of the poster switches to the Ducks’ original color palette of eggplant and jade above the headline to represent all of the eras that The Finnish Flash laced up his skates for the Ducks.
