Dallas Stars

In 1993, the Minnesota North Stars packed their bags for Dallas, Texas. They would drop the “North” from the name as well, since it didn’t make much sense while playing in Texas. The would feature a color palette of black, forest green, and metallic gold for much of their time in Dallas. In 2013, the team updated its branding with a new D-Star logo and a color palette of kelly green, black, and silver. I decided to work within that new chromatic scheme when developing my redesign. For the primary logo, I created longhorn skull branding with a D inside a green and black star. To complement that mark, I added a stylized green-and-black Texas flag, at state logo with a star over Dallas, and a standalone longhorn skull mark. The typeface is a westernized font in which barbs are added to block serif. The home and road jerseys play on the angular nature of the star without going over the top. The alternates are solid black with subtle striping and the Texas flag logo.
