In 1976, the Nuggets entered the NBA as one of four teams kept in the NBA-ABA merger, along with the Spurs, Nets, and Pacers. From 1976 to 1982, the Nuggets used a fairly simple scheme of royal and athletic gold with hints of red in the logo set. In 1982, the NBA world would see one of the greatest uniform sets ever created in a navy scheme with green trim and a rainbow pattern across the chest and down the shorts. Three years later, the base uniform would switch from navy and green to royal and athletic gold, but the rainbow would remain until 1993. That year, the Nuggets would rebrand. Gone were the rainbow classics in favor of the current primary logo in a navy, metallic gold, and red scheme. The color scheme would be overhauled to powder blue, royal, and athletic gold for the Carmelo Anthony era, with an update changing the royal to navy in 2008 while keeping powder the primary color. This summer, however, with the switch to Nike the team opted for a navy Icon edition uniform. My concept strives to blend the rainbow era with powder blue to create a unique look for the Nuggets moving forward. The primary mark features the rainbow inside a roundel with a mountain and the city in the foreground. The roundel breaks down into a circular mark and a standalone mountain top icon. A pick axe and a DN mark add variety to the identity. The typeface is a block sans serif with with a yellow/gold bevel to emulate gold bricks, while the numerals drop the bevel for a simpler treatment as per NBA rules. The Icon and Association uniforms bring back the rainbow in a big way. Not only does the rainbow appear across the chest and back, with the team name and player number in gold, but it also appears as a full stripe lining up directly with the partial logo. Both the Icon and Association uniforms use navy and yellow trim along the neck, armholes, and waistband. The alternate uniform uses an athletic gold base and white type, with trim in navy and powder blue. The Pride uniform throws back to the team’s ABA and early NBA days with a royal blue base and white accents. The player number appears on the shorts of the Pride uniform for a throwback look. The court is on the simple side, letting the combination of powder blue and the rainbow roundel shine through. A sublimated mountain and town appear along the sideline.
